The Infant Community

is divided in two sections:

Nido

(for infants 2 months to approximately 18 months)

Young Children's Community

(for children 18 months to 3 years).

This peaceful and soothing environment is designed to assist infants with their developmental needs: the need for love and security, the need for coordinated movement, the need for language acquisition, the need for sensorial exploration, the need for independence, and the need for order and structure. During this stage of life, the growth rate of the nervous system and brain are going at a very rapid pace; many brain cell connections are taking place, and with these connections new knowledge appears in the form of milestones. The carefully chosen materials and activities in this section of the class help the infants obtain greater success in the acquisition of motor skills and self-awareness. A ratio of three infants to one adult is  followed.

"Nido"

This beautiful environment is prepared to fulfill the physical and psychological needs of approximately 12 to 16 children under the guidance and loving care of a Montessori guide and an assistant. As children begin to walk, they enter this community. This larger space offers more opportunities for motor development, intellectual growth, language development, and independence.

Children also enjoy daily play time and contact with nature in the outdoor environment.

To enrich the children's language development, both English and Spanish are spoken properly by the guide and assistants.
